I Was Interviewed

Who always seems so happy in a crowd
Whose eyes can be so private and so proud
No one’s allowed to see them when they CRYYYYYY

Oh, my (chicken and) stars (soup)!

How long have I been blogging? Two and a half years?

Hasn’t anyone wondered? Hasn’t anyone cared?

I guess not, because it took THIS long before someone out there decided to interview me.

The nice folks at Blog Catalog sent an intrepid reporter to my house to talk to this mysterious JD person we’ve all been hearing so much about.

Mysterious no more! Because I give it all up in this exclusive never-before-seen interview.

Ironic that this interview came at a time when I was feeling less than impressed with myself. I hope that didn’t come across. Somehow . . . I doubt it.

Here’s a tidbit. In the interview, I mention that I suspect Dave of doing and saying craz-ay things just to get in the blog. Think I’m making that up? Here’s what I found on my desk one morning:

Yes. This is a school photo of a young and bespectacled JD. Dave found it and attached a Post-it with this potential I Do Things title. It could work. Dave has never let me down before (See: Gilligan’s Island, Quisp, Robot, Snail).

*        *        *

Thanks to Midwest Mom for taking the time and for doing such a great job.

(And I totally was NOT wearing orange elephant pants! That reporter tricked me!)

I will have to check it out. I can’t wait! Wow, they came to your house. Haven’t they heard of the Internet? I bet Gus is very happy that you wear glasses so he doesn’t have to. I don’t think he would enjoy glasses (although he would probably look really cute).

  2. 2 Jenn Thorson

Ah, stop lying, JD– we know you’re all about the orange elephant-print MC Hammer pants. We know.

PS- love the childhood Dorothy Hamill do. How MANY of us had that haircut back then? Flashback to three of my closest friends…

Excellent interview! I’m jealous of your funny. I wish I was funnier. I’m also quite jealous that you are a freelance book editor. Do you get to edit books you enjoy reading, or is it a bunch of random stuff?

I would so wear those glasses!

That was a fun interview. I think you might be famous now!

Nice interview! I would have liked to see your Jellyfish attack header though… I didn’t know you were a free lance editor… Im really jealous of your life. And now Im gonna have to order some cereal marshmellows.. so maybe you WILL get that guy some business!

I’m too sick to be witty right now. But I had that same hairdo as a child. You were a cute kid. And am I the only one who doesn’t know who Gus is??

JD, it was such a pleasure to interview you… truly.

And I’ll admit right here, right now, that I stretched the truth about the orange elephant pants.

The truth is, you were nude.

    [Don't bother denying it!]

You did a bang up job on the interview. Your JD-ness really came through. Funny, funny, funny!

I adore the bespectacled JD! Doesn’t the word ‘bespectacled’ sound made up? Like a kid would invent it? Anyway, you look cute with that bowl cut and I bet Gus would be feel privileged to wear those glasses. Too bad he doesn’t get to.

Anne: OK, no they didn’t really come to my house. But it sounded that way, right? Ooh, I’m so important. No. It was e-mail. And you’re right: Gus would hate glasses. They would hide his beautiful eyes.

Jenn Thorson: Now I’ll never live down those pants. I think I’ll have to write a post setting the record straight. (There WERE elephant pants in my past.) You know I think my “wedge” actually predates Dorothy Hamill. So obviously she copied off my first grade school photo.

dcr: Yeah, I’m not sure orange is your color. And thanks.

Surfie: Thank you! Nothin’ to be jealous of here. I do love my job — mostly. I get some boring and some enjoyable books. It’s about half and half. But I enjoy even the boring ones, really.

Stephanie Barr: Heh! I’ve been trying to find someone to do it for ME! But (heavy sigh) Okaaaaay. If I haaaave to.

Daisy the Curly Cat: You would look so cute in those glasses! (They are called “cat’s eye glasses, after all). I have to say something here: those pants and vest were really more tangerine. TANGERINE!

carissajaded: Please! No jealousy! That makes first-grade JD cry! Maybe I’ll revisit that jellyfish header some day. Except I’m afraid it made people epileptic. But if you’re willing to take the chance, so am I.

Spot: Oh, feel better! I’m not sure that school photo was my finest childhood moment, but at least I seem to be unaware of how freakish I looked. Gus is my cat! He is older brother to Pru, our kitten. You’ll find plenty of Gus and Pru here if you look around.

    Lola: Thanks!

Julia at Midwest Moms: HA! It’s true. It’s also true I’d rather have people think I was nude than wearing orange elephant pants. Seriously, thanks again. It was a lot of fun.

Lidian: FAME! It’s everything I ever wanted. Thank you!

Kathy: You’re too nice, my friend. I think “bespectacled” is a real word — if not, it should be. If I still had those glasses, I could try them on Gus, but he’d probably run in terror.

    Amy: Ssssh! Don’t tell anyone!

dcr: You’ll just have to pick the most palatable version. I think I’ll go with nude, myself.

absepa: Yes, she is, isn’t she? All I did was answer the questions — she put it all together in a really funny and creative way that somehow DIDN’T make me look stupid (except for the orange pants thing.)

Kathryn: Oh, thanks. That Star magazine cover is pretty sad. I could’ve done a better job, but really. It’s Star magazine. OK, I WAS wearing those pants — IN JUNIOR HIGH!

Jeff: Well, I’m waiting for an interview with this cool guy I’ve heard about. He wears sunglasses and starts his interviews with “Sup.” Once I do ten questions with him, I’ll know I’ve arrived.

Leeuna: Thank you. I’m sure everyone is relieved on the orange pants front.

Preston: HA! Thanks. No, NO ONE deserves to have their orange pants publicized!

Your Daily Cute: Thank you! It IS a long time. I wonder what else I could’ve been doing with my life . . . ?

    flit: Thank you!

Florida Girl In Sydney: I know! That little JD photo has been sitting on my desk for months. I’m imagining Dave checking my blog every morning, hoping to see it. But . . . probably not.

Pricilla: Thank you, my goaty friend! Uh, no fashion shoot. I will be addressing this whole orange pants issue in an upcoming post, tho.

Staci at Just Bloggled: Woot! Thanks, Staci! I’m on my way. (And of course I’m wearing my orange pants and carrying a handful of White Castles.)

Jeff: REALLY! OMG. I’m seriously excited. WHEN?WHEN?

Margaret (Nanny Goats): cocks head KNOCKKNOCKKNOCK! Here they are now! Won’t you excuse me? Oh, it’s JEFF! (see above). But seriously, thank you so much! Personal assistant? As if. Being interviewed is a piece of cake. I want to be the interviewER, like you. Then I’ll know I’ve really arrived.

awesome interview! i read it at work, but the punks won’t let me comment on blogs anymore.

how about a spin off? i would do things if i weren’t so lazy?

keep up the great humor blog. now i will bow like obama did except, you’re not old and chinese, are you? scrolling back up to take a look at your photo.

  34. 34 JD

    Bingo: Aw, thank you.

Heather Kephart: Thanks, Heather! The interview was a lot of fun.

Valerie: Nope. I’m old-ish but definitely not Chinese. Don’t you remember that I Do Things WAS all your idea? Think back . . . wa-a-a-ay back. You know, a spin-off sounds great, but the fact is I AM too lazy, so . . . probably not gonna happen.

Buggys: Thank you very much. Sigh. I can see I’m going to have to address this elephant pants issue sooner than later. This is one of those rare times I really DID wish I had photographic proof.

ann: Thank you! I appreciate your coming back to read. It was a lot of fun to do.

mrsblogalot: WOO! YEAH! Sing it, sistah!

Tim: Are you inviting me? Do you have some kind of pull with Ellen? I think I’d prefer Ellen than Oprah, to be honest. Then I’ll move on to the nighttime talkies.

seafoodpunch: It all kinda happened at the same time. I was going to take a break, but then I knew I’d want to post about the interview. I’m still a little “meh” about blogging, but I’m down, not out. I’m glad you enjoyed my silly interview. It was a lot of fun.
