Chicago hospital: Thank you so much! I hope you'll stick around for a while. I admire runners, too, and wish I could still run. But that would make God mad.

I can see how after all that training how hard it would be to call it quits because of the weather. I too admire runners. I sprint all day long but I can never maintain a fast speed that would make me competitive in anything over 400m. This is the first time reading your blog and I must say, you are a very good writer.

Jj: Oh, no! I skipped the marathon because I DO NOT run! (Tho even if I did, I would've skipped this particular marathon anyway, I'm sure.) I admire runners, too. But I am not a runner. I'm more of a lie-down-er.

Don't blame you for skipping that - I would have, too. No sense in making yourself ill, that's for sure. Running is something I always found difficult (shin splints and such) but I sure admire those like yourself who can and do run for exercise and marathons - go go GO! :)

Jj’s last blog post..Tainted Weight Loss Pills

bartolomo: Hey, thanks for chiming in! Your blog looks v. interesting. I might give running another try; at least, once I finally do something about this stupid bunion. I agree: it's great exercise.

JD
Reading through your blog for the first time---very interesting and funny. I saw the Chicago Marathon title and had to read this one. Don't know if God wants us to run or not. I never really thought about that one. I know I run. And run and run. If you're serious about weight control, some kind of exercise is essential. Hey, you know that. Everyone knows that. You want to burn calories like gasoline thrown on a fire, just think about running. Don't make a snap decision on this one! Read about it, research it, read other's comments and feelings about it and maybe......Anyway, great blog. Good luck with it.

Thanks, Cardiogirl! I'm not sure how many people reading this are pleased with how I imagine God talking to me, but, oh, well.

The crash diet lasted only 5 days and resulted in a 2-lb weight loss that almost immediately reversed itself. I still have about 12 bottles of SlimFast in my fridge. Anyone care to bid?

This was my favorite line:

"(I know I wouldn’t feel God’s pleasure if I started running. He’d be all, “JD, I made thee for a purpose, and it ain’t running. I also endowed thee with a bunion and weak ankle ligaments, so stop running lest ye incur my wrath.”)"

Hey, what happened to your crash diet post? That was fun.

Yeah, Susi, I was thinking about the 3-Day when I wrote this. I hated even walking in humidity---it really bothered me, but I couldn't imagine not at least trying, especially after everything we went through to get there. And I'm sure the marathoners---those who did run---felt like they had to try. Obviously many regretted it, but there were probably just as many who were glad they tried.
