Ziggy! Wow, that’s crazy. I do remember Bono pulling the girl from the audience; he had done that in a live video I’d seen of them doing 11:00 Tick Tock. Best concert? Well, yeah. Maybe ‘cuz it was in Ireland.

Hey…I realize this post is ancient but me and my brother were there at that concert…remember Bono pulled a girl from the crowd (still does that)…I was 16 yrs old and it is the best concert I have ever been to, except for McCartney.

Loved your account of your experience! I felt like I was there. I saw the Rolling Stones in 1981 in Philly. I camped out for tickets in a shopping center parking lot overnight waiting for the Ticketmaster kiosk to open inside the Sears department store. Flash forward to 2007…tickets to Bruce Springsteen purchased online. Never had to leave my house! I love the internet!

Elle: I’m so glad to hear from another “old” person! And glad that you felt were there. It was indeed an awesome experience. I’m not a huge Billy Joel fan, but I’ll bet it was cool seeing him at the very beginning. I also saw Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger in the mid-70s! Ah, youth. I envy you seeing Queen.

Seriously, U2 in Ireland had to be so awesome, JD!!!! Thanks for sharing your journals — you put me THERE!
The best (because it was unexpected) concert I saw was Billy Joel in McAllister Auditorium at Tulane University back in ’76. This was before he got famous (everyone still thought Harry Chapin had done Piano Man…), and the place was small enough for him to walk up and down the aisles and just give a great show.

Other shows of note — Fleetwood Mac with Bob Seger and a whole bunch of other bands that kind of melted into one another (it was a long foggy day in City Park Stadium…) , and Queen on Halloween.
