Maureen: I rarely actually wrote in my diary either. There weren't too many other entries besides the ones I included above. Yes, the ice water was an incredibly important component. It went perfectly with the pear salad. David: Right. "A thing." Because I was too dumb to call it a "package" or "tube"? I dunno. dcr: The theme of this comment is: Go back and read your diary/journal/novel! I love the idea of code. That would make a great post: Decoding the Diary Entry. I bet it'll be much more entertaining than you remember. Ilana: OMG! Thank you! I'm off to check it out . . . kathcom: Aw. I'm glad my reference to Love's Baby Soft reminded you of your friend. I hope "A Case of Rape" doesn't remind anyone of anything. It was pretty heady stuff for a made-for-TV movie. Will: You're so nice! And I think you're perfectly normal NOT to be familiar with any of this stuff, as it was mostly adolescent girlie stuff.

I am clueless about much of that. After having to click the first three links to see what you were writing about, I realized I was hopeless. I must have led a sheltered life!

But with the great way that you write, I think pretty much anything that comes to your mind will be a good post.

I had a diary too, in the early eighties, I think. I don’t know that I want to go back and read the entries. I know I wrote some of them in code, and I don’t know if it’d be worth the effort to decode them. Geez, I wonder if I remember the code? Did I keep the key in the diary? That wouldn’t make sense. But, if I didn’t keep the key in the diary, I’d have absolutely no idea where that key might be now.

I think I started a separate journal in the late eighties. I think I did one entry before I quit. I don’t think I want to go back and read that one either.

Oh, I did find over the weekend a novel-in-progress that I started around the early 90′s or so. I knew about it, but didn’t remember that I had actually written anything for it.

Ahahahaha! I had Snoopy earrings and Love’s Baby Soft too! I think my favorite thing was that you “made” ice water for supper! HAR! You were hilarious back then without even knowing it. Your diary entries are far more interesting than mine. When I remembered I had a diary and would actually write in it!

Jay: Well, they were 45s, after all. And yes, the earrings were IT! I can see them so clearly. But I would've given away ALL my earrings AND the earring tree for one smile from Neal/Greg/Gary. Sigh. Jen:ann: I don't know! OMG! I just Googled Gary on FB and HE IS ON THERE AND CUTE! What should I do????? Margaret (Nanny Goats): I know, I don't even really remember going to Walgreen's THAT much over a period of time. "Gor." I don't know. Someone would have to be pretty amazing for me to consider them "gor." DrowseyMonkey: No, yours was WAY more interesting. "Short little entries about nothing"? Yeah. See above, please. Unfinished Rambler: Too late. There are already photos. Maybe I'll just zoom in so close you can't really tell what it is. And yes, there WAS naked yogurt eating. flit: Ohhhh. Fresh Rain. How I loved that! Also the Lemon one and Green Apple. You canNOT find these anymore! Janna: I didn't THINK mine was humorous at the time . . . really! I remember those Certs. They were fruit-flavored and not at all refreshingly minty. More like candy. Hence, the "thing." Jeff: The food part was out of control. And I know you're a guy and all, so you probably don't remember Rock Flowers. They were sort of smaller Barbies with a hole thru their feet and legs and . . . beyond, so you could could stick them onto a record turntable and watch them spin around. And those four songs were the 45s by the original bands! natural: Yeees, Walgreen's has been around a while, hasn't it (side eye). I think all we did on the tape was cough and giggle and go, "Oooh, I'm smoking." Dang, I wish I still had that tape. Sex Casino. I don't think it'll scare you. Haven't decided yet how much to share. And yes, there are photos. Margo: Yes, Bread! Good guess. And, boy did THAT song just pop into my head. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed my puerile ramblings. I think all girls of a certain age remember Love's Baby Soft with nostalgia.

I kept a diary on and off, but could never find them now – probably long gone – I hope (?) I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The details are great and I found it all strangely riveting. Loves Baby Soft body mist, green jello, Walgreens, being the one who says yes to offered tobacco products – could have been lots of us. And who sang that diary underneath a tree song? Bread?
